438 Cards is named after a number that means everything to its founder, Tom — 438, the house he grew up in, where a childhood love of sports cards first took hold. Tom runs it today from near Southampton, on England's south coast.

For Tom, it started with shootout cards and Panini sticker albums. Saturday mornings meant a trip to the corner shop for a fresh handful of packs, then the slow, brilliant grind of trying to fill every last spot in the album. The rest happened in the school playground — flicking through everyone's piles, calling out “got, got, need” until he'd traded his way to the ones he was missing.

That's where the obsession started, and it never really left. 438 Cards is what happens when that same kid grows up and decides to build the hobby he always wished existed.

Today 438 Cards is a premium football card breaking company — live box breaks, hand-picked singles and community giveaways, all run by Tom from near Southampton. But the breaks are only half of it. What matters most is the people on the other side of the screen: the regulars, the first-timers, and the collectors nervously buying their very first spot.
